North Carolina Fingerprinting and Background Check Information
Agency with the authority to run the background check process:
North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
State statute (Pub. L. 92-544) or authority exists to authorize submission of CJIS background checks to the FBI database for vendors and private sector contractors who have direct access to criminal justice information/systems.
There is a state statute but it was not provided by the respondent.

Not currently (August 2019) but is likely to change by the end of 2019.
Required documents to initiate a background check:
Fingerprints and a signed CJIS Security Addendum.
Preferred method of submission of required information.
US Postal Service.
Are fingerprint cards from outside the state accepted?
Yes, via traditional mail delivery.
Process for non-criminal justice checks:
The appropriate documentation is submitted to SBI. After the checks are complete, the SBI replies back with a yes/no decision. When fingerprints are required, one set of prints is acceptable. A state card is not required in addition to the FD258. Fingerprints can be submitted both on cards or electronically.
Time required for obtaining results of a non-criminal-justice background check.
Less than one week.

There is only one option available - a state and national fingerprint check for $38.00. Checks and credit cards are accepted.
